SUMMARY:Compass Academy Live Online: Sleep Sabotage: Tactical CBT-I for the Over-Functioning Male
DESCRIPTION:For high-achieving\, over-functioning men\, the drive to succeed often follows them into the bedroom\, morphing into a frustrating battle with insomnia. When executive anxiety turns the bed into a boardroom of tossing\, turning\, and “sleep effort\,” standard relaxation advice falls short. Clinicians working with this population need aggressive\, structured interventions to break the paradox of trying too hard to sleep. \nThis intensive 3-hour live online seminar introduces tactical Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) tailored specifically for the hyper-focused male client. Participants will learn how to dismantle deeply ingrained sleep anxiety\, architect rigorous sleep restriction schedules that force neurological adaptation\, and deploy cognitive tools to sever the link between bedtime and catastrophic expectations. Led by Dr. Phillip Owens\, this course provides clear\, high-impact strategies to restore restorative sleep and maximize daytime performance. \nLearning Objectives \nThe clinician will recognize ways to dismantle the “sleep effort” paradox by implementing stimulus control instructions that break the association between the bed and executive anxiety. \nThe participant will understand how to architect a sleep restriction therapy schedule that forces the client’s brain to prioritize deep\, restorative sleep over “tossing and turning.” \nThe clinician will know ways to deploy cognitive restructuring tools that unhook clients from “catastrophic sleep expectations.” \nAbout Your Instructor \nDr. Phillip Owens\, LPC-MHSP-S \nDr. Phillip Owens\, LPC-MHSP-S is a licensed professional counselor with 21+ years of clinical experience and is an approved supervisor for trainees. He has taught adults for over 16 years at a variety of colleges and universities\, and is regularly sought as an expert counselor for C‐Suite leaders. \nDr. Owens is a regular contributor to Nashville Fit Magazine and has appeared on various radio broadcasts and podcasts\, including the Ground Up podcast. His teaching is personal and direct\, using humor and memorable case studies to make clinical applications understandable. In his seminars\, participants are invited to engage\, practice\, and design their own interventions from what they learn. Attendees leave with clear\, practical tools that will strengthen their clinical confidence\, and they can use right away to improve client outcomes. \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: Friday\, July 31 · 8:00 – 11:00am (CT) \nTime Zone: America/Chicago (Central Time) \nLocation: Google Meet Live Online (Video call link available upon registration) \nContinuing Education: 3 NBCC Approved CE’s \nCost: $125 with a $10 discount if registered before July 15

SUMMARY:Complex Care\, Ethical Practice - Ethics\, Systems\, and Clinical Responsibility Working with Chronic Pain & Illness
DESCRIPTION:Complex Bodies\, Complex Care is a 4-part training series designed to help clinicians more effectively support clients living with chronic pain and illness.\n6/12/26 — Module 1: Complex Systems\, Foundational Care — The Neuroscience of Pain & Illness \n6/19/26 — Module 2: Complex Lives\, Compassionate Care — The Lived Experience of Chronic Pain & Illness \n7/3/26 — Module 3: Complex Needs\, Practical Care — Somatic and Experiential Interventions \n7/31/26 — Module 4: Complex Care\, Ethical Practice — Ethics\, Systems\, and Clinical Responsibility \nThis series integrates neuroscience\, somatic awareness\, and experiential approaches to deepen understanding of how chronic pain and illness impact the nervous system\, identity\, and daily functioning. Participants will explore the complex relationship between physical and mental health\, including the role of stress\, trauma\, neurodivergence\, and systemic factors in shaping client experiences. \nBeyond theory\, this training emphasizes practical\, applicable skills. Clinicians will learn from Katie Casey (a therapist with lived-experience of chronic health issues) on how to conceptualize cases\, provide meaningful psychoeducation\, and implement interventions that are flexible\, ethical\, and responsive to client capacity. Each session includes opportunities for discussion\, reflection\, and experiential learning to support integration into real-world clinical practice. \nWhether you attend one session or the full series\, you will leave with a deeper understanding of this population and concrete tools to provide more attuned\, effective care. \nTo help with accessibility\, the modules are offered in a hybrid format — meaning you can join live via zoom or in-person in the Nashville area.
