Being in a counseling or social work internship can be a rollercoaster. Trust me, I know.

This might be your first time being with clients one-on-one (or not). It might also be the first time you’re testing your skills, learning to manage work, school, grades, caseload, notes, and self-care. Let’s not forget responsibility to family, partners, pets, friends, and bills. Throw in some imposter syndrome, co-workers, feeling safe (or in some cases, unsafe) in your internship, uncertainty, fear, anxiety, overwhelm, being heard, lack of sleep, too much caffeine, and regret, and you’ve got a recipe for overwhelm and burnout. And sometimes there are moments of gratitude, honor, joy, accomplishment, and relief. Guess what? I’m here for ALL of it!

This group is for the interns who don’t have time or resources for therapy individually and for those who need to know they are not experiencing internship alone. We’re not meant to. This group is for those who need community and safe and accountable space to be and say who they are, what they feel, and ask all the questions. Most of all, this group is confidential. All are welcome: diversity is my favorite part of therapy, you just have to currently be in a counseling or social work internship!

About me: I’m Nikki Alonso-Scott (she/her), LPC-MHSP (t). I am a Filipino American trauma therapist with Open Door Counseling and we provide affirming mental health care for Tennessee. My specialty is complex trauma, BIPOC/AANHPI clients, suicide loss survivors, grief/loss, and multicultural issues. I completed my masters degree in December 2023. Since graduating, I’ve wanted to create a group for interns to process what they are experiencing, to get therapy in a group setting with those in similar situations, and find support from the community they are entering into. If you are interested in this group please email me at: nikki@opendoorcounselingtn.com.

We’d love to have you.
