About TLPCA

Learn more about TLPCA’s history, what we are all about, our mission to educate and advocate for counselors of Tennessee, and what we have upcoming.

The Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association (TLPCA) is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization dedicated to the growth and enhancement of mental health counselors in Tennessee. TLPCA represents Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), regardless of where they may serve—private practice, hospitals, universities, mental health centers, etc. TLPCA also welcomes as affiliates those who educate and supervise LPCs, as well as students who are working towards becoming an LPC. Together, TLPCA members strive to improve the quality of healthcare services that professional counselors deliver and promote LPCs as highly qualified clinical mental health providers. Our vision is to be the state organization representing licensed professional mental health counselors with consistent standards of education, training, licensing practice, advocacy and ethics. We invite you to peruse our site. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@tlpca.net.

Our Mission

Our mission is to enhance the profession of mental health counseling in Tennessee and its regions, through licensing, advocacy, education and professional development.

Our History

The Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association (TLPCA) was founded in March 2007 by Licensed Professional Counselors from across the State who wanted an organization that would meet their professional needs and help LPCs better meet the needs of their clients. TLPCA represents Licensed Professional Counselors, regardless of where they serve—private practice, hospitals, universities, mental health centers, etc., graduate students actively pursuing licensure and affiliates who educate and supervise LPCs.

What We Have Going On

  • Creating and implementing relevant, cost effective continuing educational opportunities for LPCs throughout Tennessee
  • Providing feedback to our licensure board to ensure that our LPC rules and regulations best position LPCs in Tennessee for portability of licensure to other States
  • Creating and implementing an updated website for TLPCA members to network and communicate
