Expanding EmPATH in Tennessee
The Tennessee Diversion Coalition is excited to welcome Dr. Scott Zeller, the creator of the EmPATH unit, at its next quarterly meeting. The EmPATH (Emergency, Psychiatric, Assessment, Treatment and Healing) model is sweeping the nation as an advancement in emergency mental health care. It provides an alternative to the traditional noisy, hectic emergency room by offering a calming, more therapeutic environment that is equipped to stabilize patients experiencing mental health crises, even the more acute crises. Dr. Zeller is Vice President of Acute Psychiatry for Vituity and Past-President of both the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry and the National Coalition on Psychiatric Emergencies. He also currently serves as a professor at two medical schools and was formerly Chief, Psychiatric Emergency Services for Oakland, CA, where he developed the blueprint for improving emergency psychiatric services known as the “Alameda Model.” Currently, Tennessee has one EmPATH unit, which is operated by the McNabb Center in Knoxville. This meeting will be virtual and include discussions on how to expand the EmPATH model in Tennessee.
Thursday, July 24 @ 1 p.m. Central
