So what is this again and why would I take the time to drive out there?

Well, you know how you talk with a client during session about ideas on how to cope on their own at home?  Strategies that will help them be in that window of tolerance where they can think and learn and grow.  Problem is that we rarely have time to really, truly practice coping skills during session.

My experience has been that many clients leave with the best of intentions to take action just to return to the next session disappointed in themselves for not having “done anything.”  Then you spend time talking about things like the stages of change and reframing negative self-talk when we wish we could move on with our treatment plan.

This is where Coping in the Cottage can help.

It is a space where your clients can come try out various coping strategies in order to begin their own coping practices in their daily life.  One of my clients who is an educator called it “guided self-practice.”

For years I’ve done therapy with clients and I have the expertise plus many of the tools and equipment to practice coping skills.  My vision is that you’ll send your clients out to the cottage for a session specifically for learning/practicing coping skills then they will implement those skills and return to you proud of their accomplishments and ready to keep working towards their treatment goals.

I’m a licensed counselor so your client will have me there as a resource in the unlikely event that a coping strategy triggers a crisis.  I truly enjoy meeting people and am excited to welcome people into my space.

It is cash only and while that can sometimes be a challenge, I have set this up with solutions in mind.  First off, this is designed to be something people can come to once or even just once in a while.  It’s not intended to be a long-term, weekly therapeutic relationship.  Second, learning and practicing coping skills is something a person can do with friends if they want to – I’m happy to work with up to three people at a time.  Splitting the cost can be a real help and I think some people might enjoy having their friends / family around.

I would absolutely LOVE it if you would come to the Open House at Coping in the Cottage at 1312 Crescent Ridge Drive Murfreesboro, TN this coming Tuesday, March 31st.

Please feel free to email me or call with any questions – even over the weekend.  My personal cell is 615-417-3316.
