This presentation will examine the current issues surrounding counselor licensure portability as well as possible solutions. We will look at the issues surrounding a lack of leadership, how portability could benefit the profession as well as the community, the drawbacks due to lack of portability, and what is currently being done.
Objectives:
- Following this presentation, participants will be able to identify the need for portability.
- Following this presentation, participants will be able to understand the benefits and drawbacks due to portability.
- Following this presentation, participants will know the steps to take to help resolve this issue through advocacy and taking on leadership roles.
About the Speakers
Hannah Maust
Speaker Bio
Hannah Maust is a PhD student studying Counselor Education and Supervision and the University of Memphis. She attained her MA at McNeese State University. She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota. Her research interests are in perceptions of poverty, masculinity, DBT and licensure portability.
Joy Hutchinson, NCC, CTP, NREMT-Paramedic
Speaker Bio
Joy Hutchinson, NCC, CTP, NREMT-Paramedic is a doctoral student at The University of Memphis in Tennessee. She is the Doctoral Representative for Chi Sigma Iota. Her interests are working with first responders, trauma, and substance abuse. Joy’s hope is to eradicate the stigma for counseling within the first responder professions.
