At the end of this activity the participant will be more knowledgeable of the impact of trauma and relate trauma to overall growth and development. Participants will identify the range of reactions to trauma including the impact of mental health as it relates to suicidal behaviors. Participants will learn the systems approach to trauma-competent care impacts the ability of the youth to respond to treatment and screening related to suicidal behaviors.
Objectives:
- Participants will learn symptoms of trauma including behavior manifestations.
- Participants will gain into applicable screening process and interventions related to presentation of suicidal behaviors.
- Participants will understand ethical considerations related to screening and treating suicidal behaviors in a trauma-competent system of care.

Lisa Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has been in the field for 15 years. She is the current CEO at Compass Intervention Center and the Group CEO for McDowell Center for Children in Dyersburg, TN. Lisa has been at Compass for 9 years.
Kimberly Jones, TF-CBT
Speaker Bio
Kimberly Jones is the clinical program director and supervisor of trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CBT) at Compass Intervention Center. Kimberly is a certified national TF-CBT therapist, holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and master’s degree in counseling and is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Counseling Education program.
