This session presents implications of original research by the author and other efforts on the effective use of teletherapy. The research measured the observations of 164 LPCs in Northern Virginia on the effectiveness of teletherapy as well as additional pertinent research during and before the Covid19 period. The results of the original research showed that 99% of LPCs said that this mode of therapy was “effective” and 98% said that their clients concurred. Counselors reported that they were “effective” treating clients who started and continued with teletherapy as the sole therapeutic setting. Strong majorities reported a significant increase in outreach to people with handicaps, far fewer missed appointments, and increased client-count.
Objectives
- Participants will gain greater awareness and confidence on how effective they can be providing services via teletherapy.
- Participants will be able to assess the effectiveness of their own efforts using teletherapy.
- Participants will be fully aware of the life-saving benefits of the required change to teletherapy and build on the success of the counseling profession in rapidly adapting to a change that in many places occurred literally overnight.
