This morning Tennessee’s House of Representatives elected a new Speaker, Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville) 94-0 with bipartisan support. Jeremy Faison will replace Sexton as Republican Caucus Leader.
Before adjourning the Special Session, Sexton announced his leadership team. Most chairs and co-chairs retained their appointments from Casada. The following are changed:
Deputy Speaker- Curtis Johnson (replaces Matthew Hill)
Agriculture Subcommittee- Andy Holt (replaces Jay Reedy)
Business Subcommittee- Ron Travis (replaces Curtis Johnson)
Finance Subcommittee- Gary Hicks (replaces Andy Holt)
Insurance Committee- Robin Smith (replaces Ron Travis)
Life & Health Insurance- Ryan Williams (replaces Robin Smith)
TennCare Subcommittee- David Hawk (replaces Matthew Hill)
Departments & Agencies- Bob Ramsey (replaces Bill Sanderson)
Public Service & Employees- Jay Reedy (replaces Bob Ramsey)
Ethics Committee- Curtis Johnson (replaces Matthew Hill
Business in both chambers was concluded in less than 3 hours. In what was expected by insiders as a huge day for attendance and media it convened and adjourned with little fanfare. Visitor galleries were about half full and news crews was minimal.
Unless we have another historic situation calling for another special session, the legislature will reconvene Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
