Location

Directions
This workshop is an opportunity for clinicians to pause and consider what happens inside of them throughout their work as a helping professional. Participants will receive an in depth look at what happens in our brains and bodies when we are dysregulated in our work as clinicians, as well as resources to cultivate a meaningful self-care practice to help sustain their work. Participants will receive psychoeducation and will have opportunities to engage in experiential exercises. The concepts and resources in this workshop will be primarily applied to clinicians and the unique stressors of working as helping professionals. These concepts and resources will also be applied to work with clients, benefitting both sides of the therapeutic relationship.
Objectives:
-
Participants will receive psychoeducation about self-regulation. Participants will leave with an understanding of what happens in the brain and body when they become dysregulated, and how this can impact therapeutic work. I will explore this through the work of researchers and practitioners such as Stephen Porges, Deb Dana, and Janina Fisher.
-
Participants will receive skills for regulation. Participants will practice and leave with concrete skills that they can practice in and outside of sessions to help them regulate their nervous system. These skills can be offered as resources to clients in addition to self-care resources for clinician regulation.
-
Participants will receive guidance to cultivate a meaningful self-care practice to incorporate into their work. Participants will have space to reflect and understand the cues that cause dysregulation for them in sessions with clients, or outside of sessions. Participants will receive guidance on how to create a self-care plan and practice, as well as steps to evaluate and assess if this plan is effective for them in different seasons.
About the Speaker(s)
Anna Seiple, MA, LPC-MHSP, NCC
I am a counselor in Knoxville, TN (LPC-MSHP, LCMHC, NCC). I own a small private practice, Embrace Counseling, PLLC. I love working with people through messy and painful circumstances that can feel overwhelming, helping provide relief and hope in stuck spaces. My background is in attachment and trauma. I have been strongly influenced by the work of Janina Fisher and Bessel van der Kolk, as well as Stephen Porges and Deb Dana. I love helping people understand what is happening in their bodies and how this connects with what is going on in the world around them as well as their internal world. I specifically enjoy working with helping professionals, providing opportunities to consider how the state of our nervous system can impact therapeutic work. I take a “parts-work” approach alongside understanding the different states our nervous system might be in, helping clinicians regulate their system in a way that not only benefits their wellbeing holistically, but also benefits their clients they encounter in their work. I have led workshops and groups for clinicians to explore these ideas and put them into practice. I have served as an adjunct lecturer at Johnson University and look forward to offering training to the community of clinicians around me. When I’m not working, I love being outside, whether I’m in my hammock or on a hike. In my spare time I might be teaching group fitness classes, playing piano, or painting.
