Directions
As mental health counselors, we value the role of ethics and effective documentation within the field. The relationship between counselor and client can be positive, creative, and challenging. As counselors, we are in roles to facilitate the process of human growth and development. However, at times counselors are challenged by clients in regards of ethical decision making. Presenters will discuss ACA code of ethics regarding ethical decision-making pertaining to client welfare, record keeping/documentation, and informed consent in the counseling relationship. Discussions will include ways to assess case scenarios regarding ethical decision making that is evidence based, collaborative, and constructive for active clinicians.
Objectives:
- Following this presentation, participants will be able to set ethical boundaries with clients.
- Following this presentation, participants will be able to ethically document interactions with clients.
- Following this presentation, participants will be able to utilize ethical strategies to protect counselor and client welfare.

Regina Beach, LPC/MHSP
Regina has been a mental health counselor for 9 years. She specializes in Trauma and children’s therapy. She is currently a doctoral student at Tennessee Tech University.
