“Using Internal Family Systems in Clinical Practice”

This two hour training on using Internal Family Systems will provide a didactic overview of the model, highlighting the differences between IFS and other approaches, as well as explaining the flow of the model. Additionally, the training will offer an experiential exercise to allow participants an opportunity to practice using the model to experience the role of therapist and client. Lastly, the training will provide examples of its use in case conceptualization and treatment in clinical practice along with resources for further learning.

1. Provide an overview of the Internal Family Systems Model
2. Highlight the difference for the provider in provision of counseling services when using the IFS model
3. Practice use of model through experiential exercise
4. Provide case conceptualization for use of IFS for treatment of anxiety, depression, eating disorder, and trauma

Christina Burns, LPC-MHSP, CEDS-S

Christina Burns, LPC-MHSP is a therapist with over 20 years of experience in private practice, having served the mental health community in various capacities from clinical director of a residential eating disorder treatment program to program director and coordinator of partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. She specializes in treatment of clients with eating disorders and trauma, is a certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS) through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP), and provides supervision for those pursuing this credential as well as those pursuing state licensure. Christina is also an Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist and a Program Assistant for the Internal Family Systems Institute.
