Grief impacts us all, but how we handle it is determined by our environment and what we have seen modeled within our family. For mental health providers in the helping community, it is especially important to consider the impact of how we handle grief when faced with clients and patients who come to us to assist with healing.
Let’s talk about what is helpful (or not) in moving those who trust us to be their guides through their most difficult time toward peace.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify and apply at least three practical, evidence-informed interventions for working with clients experiencing acute or compound grief.
- Participants will learn to assess client presentations of grief and determine which therapeutic modalities (e.g., CBT, narrative therapy, trauma-informed approaches) are most effective for addressing compound or complicated grief.
- Participants will create a structured resource or tool for use in grief support groups and demonstrate the ability to guide clients through its use, including strategies for group closure and transition.
