My name is Karen Quarterman, and I am a new Student Member of TLPCA. I am currently a master’s student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of the Cumberlands.
I am writing in hopes of finding one LPC who is willing to provide responses to the questions below regarding their professional experience. This exercise is an assignment for one of my classes, and I would be very much appreciative for assistance. I am also happy to do a phone interview or virtual meeting if preferred. Once I receive a response, I will provide an update to this post or have it removed.
There are only five questions in total which are shown below:
Distinctive Aspects of Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC)
Question 1: What do you think makes CMHC distinct from other therapeutic professions, such as school counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work?
Question 2: Please share a bit about your journey into the field of CMHC. What motivated you to pursue this career? If you have a specialty, how did you find and train for it?
Work-Life Balance & Self Care
Question 3: Mental health counseling can be emotionally taxing. How do you manage work-life balance? How many clients do you have on your caseload?
Question 4: What strategies do you use for self-care?
Advice for Students
Question 5: What advice would you give a CMHC student to help prepare for the realities of the profession?
Thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely,
Karen Quarterman, 678.525.7996 – Chattanooga, TN
