This session will present an update on current legislative efforts for TLPCA. TLPCA’s Public Policy Representative, Janie Wilkerson, and TLPCA’s Government Representative, Jenny Ford, will share information about current legislation affecting our organization and their work to address key pieces of legislation. In addition, Nathaniel Flinchbaugh, Senior Associate General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Health, Office of General Counsel, will join the session to provide information about current issues that affect LPCs in Tennessee.
Objectives:
- Understand current legislative efforts for LPCs in Tennessee
- Identify best practices for collaborative advocacy
- Have a clearer understanding of the short-term and long-term gains for the mental health profession in Tennessee
- Be able to identify regulatory and legislative trends at the national level that impact our state activity
About the Speakers
Janie Wilkerson, LPC-MHSP, NCC
Speaker Bio
Janie Wilkerson, LPC-MHSP, NCC works with transgender youth and their families in private practice in Nashville, specializing in trauma therapy. She is a member of the health and youth task forces for Nashville Pride, the 2020 Ethics Chair for TLPCA, and the 2021 President-Elect for TLPCA.
Nathaniel Flinchbaugh
Speaker Bio
Mr. Flinchbaugh currently serves as a Senior Associate General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Health, Office of General Counsel. As part of his role, he acts as a board advisory attorney and disciplinary counsel in contested case hearings. Mr. Flinchbaugh has served four years in this role. Mr. Flinchbaugh holds a Master of Laws in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago- School of Law, a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Miami. Mr. Flinchbaugh currently holds a Certification in Health Care Compliance and is a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Mr. Flinchbaugh is licensed to practice law in Florida, Tennessee, and the United States Supreme Court.
