“A Neuro Sequential Model for Developmental Trauma”

The purpose of this presentation is to evaluate the effects of trauma on a developing brain to promote best practices in mental health counseling. A review of Adverse Childhood Experiences, the foundational parts within the traumatized brain, and the importance of a bottom-to-top neuro sequential approach to healing developmental trauma will be discussed.
Workshop Objectives
- Following the presentation, participants will be able to identify the effects that developmental trauma has on the brain.
- Following the presentation, participants will be able to understand what Adverse Childhood Experiences are.
- Following the presentation, participants will be able to utilize a basic neuro sequential model for treating developmental trauma.
About the Speakers
Tony Michael
Dr. Michael is an Associate Professor at Tennessee Tech University. He is a LPC/MHSP (board approved supervisor), Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and National Certified Counselor. Dr. Michael’s areas of expertise are in attachment, adverse childhood experiences, and counseling children and families.
Mark Loftis
Dr. Loftis is an Associate Professor at Tennessee Tech University. He is a LPC/MHSP (board approved supervisor), Senior Psychological Examiner, LADAC II, and Masters Addiction Counselor. Dr. Loftis’s areas of expertise are in alexithymia, adverse childhood experiences, and addictions counseling.
