Despite research advances in the past 20 years, evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for addiction often are not employed in therapeutic settings (Coco et al., 2019). In the context of addiction group treatment, peer support and 12 step models are some of the most common modalities which leads to the potential neglect of distinguishing the professional identity of group counseling. This preconference will evaluate ethical best practices and supervision principles associated with addiction group counseling.
Objectives:
- Participants will identify addiction group counseling from other group treatment modalities (e.g., 12-step models, peer recovery, and group psychotherapy).
- Participants will learn evidenced-based best practices for addiction group counseling from international and national peer-reviewed journals and other reputable scholarly publications.
- Participants will learn two evidenced-based addiction group counseling interventions for treatment and supervision.
