“Ethics, Law, & Risk Management: Stay in Your Lane”

Mitigating risk in clinical practice requires purposeful planning, common sense, and adherence to the ACA Code of Ethics and the Scope of Practice Rules of Tennessee Board for LPCs. The objectives involve the participant being able to identify the most common reasons for practice violations by reviewing the literature, the Tennessee Rules, the ACA Ethical Code. Participants will also have an opportunity to identify which areas of their practice are the most vulnerable.

Workshop Objectives

  1. Following this presentation, participants will be able to identify which areas of practice are the highest risk for legal and ethical violations.
  2. Following this presentation, participants will be able to able to explain the specific Rules of the Tennessee Board for LPCs regarding the Scope of Practice.
  3. Following this presentation, participants will be able to identify three specific ways to reduce risk in their practice as LPCs.

About the Speaker

Robert Moore

Dr. Moore has practiced for 31 years and has conducted evaluations on high-risk client populations (e.g., sex offenders, threats of harm) in school systems, correctional facilities, and in private practice. In addition to his faculty responsibilities, he is currently a consultant with Shelton Forensics and two school systems.
