A career in counseling requires self-care. This is difficult in normal times, but particularly during a global pandemic. Counselors are seeing first-hand the mental health impacts of the pandemic while also managing their own personal and family experiences. In this presentation, we will consider work/life balance from a career and economic perspective. We will discuss working challenges specific to counselors and counseling students. Finally, participants will find time to discuss strategies for balance!

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the economic and social factors that impact work/life balance.
  • Participants will be able to identify strategies for advocacy at the individual and systemic levels.
  • Participants will be able to identify and apply strategies for balancing their work/life responsibilities.
