Directions

The Tennessee Board for Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marital and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Pastoral Therapists requires 12 hours of training for the LPC-MHSP supervisor designation. This training will cover the foundational elements of becoming a counselor supervisor. The training will be divided into two days of information. Day one will cover the supervisor role, supervision models, and laws and ethics. Day two will cover methods and interventions, supervision contract components, the supervisory working alliance, and technology. Attendees may choose to attend one day only.

Objectives:

  • Describe the supervisor role
  • Describe important factors in the supervisory working alliance
  • Identify and explain various supervision models
  • List the components of a supervision contract
  • Apply legal and ethical concepts to the supervisory relationship
  • List implementation of technology in supervision

About the Speakers

Kevilynn Gatson

Kevilynn, the owner of Reflections Counseling Group, is an Arkansas native raised as a military kid. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas. She earned her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2011. In 2014, she attained her LPC-MHSP license for the State of Tennessee. Kevilynn is trained in EMDR, Perinatal Mental Health and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and Certified Life and Transformation Coach. Kevilynn is passionate and purposed to serve those feeling stuck, rejected, and counted out to begin to move past those mental blocks. She has over 13 years of professional expertise serving a wide range of clinical issues, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other life issues. Kevilynn is the co-founder of Nashville Clinicians of Color in which she assists with connecting clinicians with referral opportunities and networking. Kevilynn is co-owner of Reflective Journey Counseling Suites offering space for clinicians and holistic practitioners to service their clients. Reflections Counseling Group prides itself on being a teaching practice by offering master’s level students practicum and internship opportunities. Kevilynn is a proud mother of three beautiful daughters and loves travel and interior design.

Maria Bush

Maria Bush, has been serving in the mental health field for 18 years. She is the former Assistant Director and Master Trainer of the Mandatory Prescreening Agent Program for the Office of Crisis Services and Suicide Prevention for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. She is passionate about destigmatizing mental health and creating spaces for individuals to know their self-worth. She is the owner of Kindness Connects Us Therapy Services serving couples, adults, adolescents, and children. She specializes in mood and psychotic disorders, low self-esteem and trauma. She has additional expertise in suicide and crisis intervention.

Maria earned her undergraduate degree from Fisk University and graduate degree from Argosy University in Nashville, TN. She received her LPC-MHSP in 2013 from the State of Tennessee, additionally licensed in the states of Florida, Arizona, and Missouri. Along with her private practice, she is an author and enjoys training licensure supervisees in Tennessee and Missouri.

Maria was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She is the mother of two children. When not working she enjoys hiking and solo international travel.

Jessica LeAnn Smith

Jessica LeAnn Smith, MS, LPC-MHSP, AS, is the proud owner and CEO of the group therapy practice Smith Behavioral Health Wellness LLC. Her group practice focuses on preventing and treating mental health challenges and overall wellness based on the eight dimensions of wellness. As a psychotherapist at Smith Behavioral Health and Wellness, Jessica specializes in treating symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma through Brainspotting, CBT, mindfulness tools, and other holistic practices. Jessica is also owner of Jessica Smith: Clinical Supervision, Mentoring, & Consulting, which focuses on supervising mental health clinicians for licensure, mentoring clinicians in navigating their niche and role as clinicians, and consulting for clinicians managing their private practices. She is passionate about opportunities to bring awareness about mental health to BIPOC communities to assist in reducing the stigma around mental health, as well as doing her part to prepare the next generation of therapists. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends in her free time, traveling, reading, and trying new cuisines.
