Most of the time, clients come to counseling struggling to be a functional adult. Whether that is on the extreme of addiction and other problematic behaviors or on the extreme of perfectionism, shame, depression, and anxiety, the ability regulate our nervous system and cope with life is directly impacted by our core woundings in childhood.

This presentation will introduce you to trauma from a different lens, where trauma is about the reaction in your body and why you do what you do rather than about the event that happened. The nervous system and how it handles traumatic events or disruptions will be discussed. It will also introduce you do the idea of birthrights and what happens when those birthrights aren’t met during childhood and what it looks like in adulthood when those woundings happen. And finally, it will impress upon you the importance of being a healing healer, meaning that in order to do work with your clients, you must do the work yourself.

Objectives:

  •  Participants will be able to conceptualize trauma as a bodily reaction rather than solely an event, recognizing the significance of the nervous system’s role in handling traumatic experiences.
  • Participants will gain insight into how the nervous system processes and responds to traumatic events or disruptions.
  • Participants will learn about the concept of birthrights and techniques to address and improve when birthrights are not met.
