In honor of November being widely observed as Men’s Health Awareness Month, TLPCA/SE Region will discuss “Healthy Minds, Healthy Spaces, Healthy Men.” Our speakers-Dr. Chris Vidmar, PhD and Timothy Machado, LMSW will address masculinity in today’s society and equip counselors with ways to address the subject matter in session. All genders are welcome.
Objectives:
- Examine the nature and methods of societal structures that reinforce oppressive social norms.
- Define and discuss the concepts of Collective Liberation and Aspiring Allyship.
- Formulate approaches for developing brave spaces that foster buy-in from men on exploring their masculinity and its impact.
- Understand and describe the difference between structural and behavioral masculinity and integrate this into conversation.
- Apply knowledge of the contextual nature of masculinity and its impact.
- Understand how homosocial men’s spaces limit social interaction and gendered change.
