Clients of all ages are faced with increased levels of stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, suicidal ideation, and alcohol or substance misuse often due to mental health and trauma related underlying issues. Learn how to use expressive and arts-based approaches in working with children, adolescents, and adults in agency and private practice settings to reduce stress, and to promote wellness and psychological safety. This will be an experiential workshop in which you will leave with a greater understanding of how to effectively use arts-based methods in your practice as a clinician, regardless of the setting, while also participating in several arts-based activities. Using creative methods in counseling and in supervision can enhance your work with clients and students by providing adaptive ways for clients and students to de-stress, reduce anxiety, sharpen focus, and express strong emotions in a safe manner.

Objectives:

  • Gain a better understanding of the history of expressive arts and creative arts based approaches in counseling.
  • Learn creative methods that can be used with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, group, couples, and family counseling sessions.
  • Experience several arts-based modalities for personal self-growth and learning.
  • Reflect and process how arts-based methods may be used in your practice as a clinician, regardless of the setting.
