Workshop will offer a presentation on the differences between empathy and compassion, when to use each, a different look at compassion fatigue, and how to effectively respond to clients while also caring for the clinician. We will conclude with a focus on the brain body connection and an experiential component including a breath meditation.
Objectives:
- Differentiate between concepts of empathy and compassion in counseling.
- Identify example of when empathy is more therapeutic than compassion as an intervention, and vice versa.
- Identify one way in which recognizing the brain body connection impacts clients and one way the brain body connection impacts clinicians.
