In 2021, over 190 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced to state legislative sessions, with Tennessee coming in third for the highest number of proposed bills. Regardless of the outcome of these bills, when paired with previously passed discriminatory legislation, there is a clear negative message being sent to LGBTQ+ citizens of our state. In this session, attendees will learn effective ways to support, serve, and advocate for and on behalf of LGBTQ+ clients.
Objectives:
- Following this presentation, attendees will be able to understand the current state of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Tennessee.
- Following this presentation, attendees will be able to identify culturally responsive ways of working with and relating to LGBTQ+ clients.
- Following this presentation, attendees will be able to explain the necessity of culturally responsive care for LGBTQ+ clients, including the impact of affirmative mental health services on depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation for LGBTQ+ individuals.
