This one-hour experiential workshop introduces clinicians to foundational somatic interventions for helping clients arrive more fully in the present moment through the body. Participants will explore the basic principles of somatic therapy, the relationship between top-down and bottom-up processing, and the types of information that can be included in a body-oriented therapeutic conversation. Through guided practice, demonstration, and reflection, clinicians will learn simple somatic inquiry questions and a resource-based exercise that can be integrated into their existing clinical approach. Participants will leave with practical tools they can begin using immediately.
Objectives:
- Describe the role of present-moment bodily awareness in somatic therapy.
- Differentiate between top-down and bottom-up processing.
- Identify key categories of somatic information, including sensations, emotions, images, movement impulses, thoughts, and meaning.
- Use foundational somatic inquiry questions to help clients notice their internal experience and arrive more fully in the present moment.
