Many clients have experienced trauma at some point in their lives that may play a role in problems they are experiencing currently. Counseling students and counselors are not immune from personal trauma and may feel triggered when listening to clients share their stories. The purpose of this presentation is to outline elements of trauma-informed supervision, discuss the different faces of trauma & trauma responses and describe the roles of supervisors in facilitating trauma conversations with counselors.
Objectives:
- Following this presentation, participants should be able to 1) identify the basic elements of trauma-informed supervision
- Explain how trauma responses present themselves in counseling supervision
- Describe the roles of supervisors in facilitating trauma conversations with counseling students and counselors.

Speaker Bio
Christopher Quarto, Ph.D. is a professor in the Professional Counseling program at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Dr. Quarto has supervised practicum students and interns as well as counselors and psychologists for licensure purposes and is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).
