I am an associate clinician working in Knoxville, TN at a private practice. I graduated with my masters in August 2025 so I am one year post-grad. Because I am temporarily licsened, I cannot accept insurance yet and I am accepting private/self-pay individuals. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to build a strong referral pipeline to get self-pay/private pay individual referrals? Thaks in advance!

When I was getting started in private practice, an older clinician told me to invite other therapists out for coffee or lunch, at least 1/week. At first I did not get it, but then he explained that when they have overflow, if you are “top of mind”, they will send people your way. I did this….it WORKED!!!
I also made a 5×7 card that explained me in more detail and dropped that with other agencies, PO’s, lawyers, PCP’s and psychiatrists. Also very fruitful.
