Directions
This short training discusses the importance of professional boundaries, personal ethics versus ethical practice and how to apply this to working with clients as an agent for change versus making yourself responsible for your clients. We will also discuss where personal boundaries intersect with professional boundaries and why both are equally important to avoiding burn-out and sustaining your career in the field of professional counseling.

About the Speakers
Sarah Bedingfield, LPC-MHSP-S
Sarah was born and raised in Kingsport, TN. She attended Tennessee Technological University for an undergrad in Accounting, but later transferred to ETSU to pursue Sociology, where she finished with a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2004. She returned to the Master’s of Counseling program at ETSU in 2008 and graduated with a Master’s in both Higher Education and Community Agency Counseling. Sarah began her career with Frontier Health, starting out as a case manager for the first year and rolling into a therapist position for the following 11 years. In the process, she completed LPC licensure, became an approved clinical supervisor, and spent her last 3 years there in leadership with Children and Youth services in Kingsport, Hawkins County, and Hancock County. Since doing both internships with the ETSU counseling center during her Master’s program, Sarah has always had an interest in returning, and since October of 2022, she has been the Associate Training Director at the ETSU Counseling Center. She resides in Kingsport with her partner, Brandon, and their two daughters, Layla (5) and Elise (9). They have two dogs, Gracie and Bennie, and a cat named Georgie. She sings and has a background in musical theater, loves to be involved in service opportunities, and enjoys vacationing with family in Pawley’s Island, SC, and anywhere else they can find to have an adventure together.
